Emerson is an internationally recognised singer from Sierra Leone. West Africa's number one dancehall, reggae and afropop musician and the biggest and most famous musician in Sierra Leone at present. Emerson has been compared to Fela Kuti of Nigeria, Thomas Mapfumo of Zimbabwe and Brenda Fasse of South Africa for his songs of protest. He is counted alongside Nelson Mandela of South Africa and Kwame Nkruma of Ghana, as an influential African political activist.
Emerson lyrics highlight political corruption and injustice in Sierra Leone and address the everyday strugles and concerns of poor Sierra Leoneans. Some call him the "Sugar Meresin" (meresin is KRIO for medicine), some call him "the bitter meresin", whilst some prefer to call him "Borbor Bele".
Emerson also sings great love songs over great dance rhythms. He sings mostly in Krio and English
